Say you went home for a while and came back. While you were gone, you did something that would really end up upsetting a friend here if he knew. How would you tell them about that?

While I'm at it, what do you think about time paradoxes?

[Outside the Pokemon Center today was one Otacon in a turtleneck and trenchcoat. Even after a few months, he as having trouble adjusting to how peaceful Johto was; it wasn't exactly living on an airplane. And it wasn't hopping from warzone to warzone.]

[It was quiet, and for some reason that kind of unnerved him.]

[But at the moment, he could distract himself with watching the Chatot perched on the roof of the Center.]

_{[That Chatot is about to be joined by another one - Coop's own. She's sitting on his shoulder right now though as he approaches the Center while just quietly grinning at all the snow around him - he finds it marvellous, even if he has to fold the collar of his coat up against the wind.]

[When Julee spots the other Chatot, she timidly squawks, and when she focuses on Otacon himself she even has the manners to give him a somewhat croaky-sounding "Hello!" that probably doesn't carry all that well, but does make Cooper give the other man a wave.]}

[He smiled somewhat at that, Emma whistling some odd kind of sound she picked up from who-knows-where.]

Hey. [Otacon waved slightly in return, looking mostly unaffected by the cold--once someone dealt with winter in Alaska, everything else didn't seem too bad.] How've you been?

_{[As someone normally stationed in California, Coop is definitely affected by the cold, but the way he embraces it makes it not matter all that much.]

[He looks up with a surprised smile at the other Chatot (he's never really seen anyone else with a Chatot before, and that sound was definitely something else) before he answers, tensing only a little when Julee hops closer to his face in order to get a better view at Emma.]}

Oh, I can't complain. All things considered I've been just great. What about you?

_{[It had definitely been a while since they last talked.]}

As well as can be expected, I guess. Can't really complain either.

[Five years of traveling the world in an airplane or staying in one place on solid ground? All things considered, Johto was practically paradise no matter the weather.]

Still trying to adjust to how quiet it is here, really.

_{[It definitely is. And even though Cooper sometimes has his own doubts regarding Johto and how he feels about the place, right now, he's a fan of it. He bows his head a little in a small nod at Otacon's words - he knows the feeling.]}

I take it you had a lot to deal with during those five years.

Oh, you know--traveling the world, living in an airplane, dealing with government conspiracies and mass-produced bipedal robots. The usual.

_{[He smiles a little. How can he not when it's phrased like that.]}

Is that part of the job description or are you just unusually lucky?

Strangely enough, it's a little of both.

I don't doubt it.

_{[He claps his hand lightly to Otacon's shoulder briefly - in an affectionate way, really - and watches Julee finally fly up to perch near Emma, tilting her head at her.]}

[Emma tilted her head right back, whistling cheerfully.]

It figures, really. I was so used to things around here before, but now it just feels unnatural. Like I'm waiting to hear an explosion or something.

_{[Julee whistles back in a happy trill.]}

You'll get used to it soon enough. The mind's ability to adapt is extraordinary.

_{[This said with a softer tone of voice, though - he knows it can take a long time.]}

Yeah, you're definitely right about that. It's probably never going to be exactly the same, but I'll get used to it.

That's about as good as you can hope for, really.
