If you didn't want me around, that's one thing. If you looked me in the eye and said 'Hal, I really can't stand you anymore so I don't want anything to do with you'? I'd be heartbroken and I'd try for hours to convince you otherwise, but if that was really what you wanted? In the end I'd have left.

I stayed with you because I wanted to, James. Don't twist it into whether or not you dared condescend to waste your time with me, because that isn't how it worked back then.
